The small Isla de los Pájaros off Península Valdés has a distinctive outline that resembles Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s famous illustration of a boa constrictor that has swallowed an elephant in his children’s book, The Little Prince. The island is only a small distance from the airfield at Trelew, where Saint-Exupéry probably landed several times during his service as a mail pilot for Aeroposta Argentina. This has led to speculation that the picture was inspired by the island.
