“Saladin had responded by launching several raids against Renaud's territory. Despite his fury, however, the sultan remained magnanimous. In November 1183, for example, when he had installed his catapults around Kerak and begun to bombard it with blocks of stone, the defenders informed him that a royal marriage was taking place inside at that moment.
