Awards

A (very) few misguided souls have seen fit to select this site as worthy of attention on some grounds or other. Modesty - and, more importantly, lack of space - forbids me to display these awards publicly on my main pages. They are displayed here instead. Please ensure that your browser has enough memory to download this huge page in its entirety. Ahem. Just kidding.

As you may gather, I can't take Web awards entirely seriously (although I'm very happy to have them). Perhaps that's just because I don't win enough of them. Either way, anyone who's considering stroking my ego in this way may want to read this page first and be sure that they can take the kind of scathing commentary that their generosity may provoke.

Discovery Channel

Received for: The Inca Trail

This is quite prestigious, but I wish they'd make their banner a little smaller. Look at this thing. You could feed a family of five on it for a week.

The Discovery Channel

It seems that my pages were selected as "a valuable Internet resource for Discovery Channel School's Discover Magazine theme for fall 1997." Heh. You hear that? And they said I was just a geek. The fools.

Joking aside, the Discover Magazine site is worth taking a look at, particularly if you're involved in education in any way. Nice presentation and useful resources.

Fledge

Received for: The Inca Trail

Apparently I'm still the darling of the K-12 set.

Mcgraw-Hill Fledge

PC Webopaedia

Received for: CGI Debugging

'webopaedia' wins my personal award for the most revolting neologism of the year. Any year. However, the site itself is pretty neat. A little crowded with advertising banners, but it has some genuinely useful and accessible links.

VisionQuest

Received for: OtherWorlds

The logo looks like a bowel movement from someone who drinks metallic paint, but the people who run this have collected some interesting graphical sites. The link to mine currently appears adjacent to one to Argon Zark which is more honour than I deserve.

Vision Quest

Suite101

Received for: The Inca Trail FAQ

For some reason they described my FAQ as 'tongue-in-cheek'. What could they possibly mean?

Suite 101

Rob's Golden Chikun

Received for: OtherWorlds

A truly prestigious award. To explain what a 'chikun' (pl. 'chikunz') is would take too much time. See Rob's site for further details. Suffice to say, it's a tremendous honour to have been selected to receive a Golden Chikun award.

Hilltop Design Best Pick

Received for: OtherWorlds

Another one I take seriously. A flattering award for design, courtesy of the talented Steven Lareau.

Discover It!

Received for: The Inca Trail

I've been discovered. I feel like a continent.

Discover It!

Off-Planet Zero-G Award

Received for: Other Worlds

Apparently my site, uh, 'orbits'. Charmed, I'm sure.

Off-Planet

ArtPlanet Culture Tourism Award

Received for: Petra

I am not going to make any smart remarks about 'culture tourism' sounding like an oxymoron.

ArtPlanet

------------------------------------------------------------

I won another award once. Possibly more than one, but all the sites that gave them to me appear to have since disappeared from the face of the Internet. I think you should probably take that as a warning.
